Oliver family greeted by the President

THE widow and family of Tom Oliver were in Aras An Uachtarain on the Wednesday before Christmas in 1991 where they were greeted by President Mary Robinson.
The President who, like the majority in the country told the family that she abhorred the manner in which Tom Oliver was abducted and shot by the IRA in July of the same year.
After the incident the President had expressed a wish to meet the family, including Tom's widow, Bridie.
The family was accompanied on the visit to Aras by members of the STOP committee who gained national recognition for their efforts to rid their community of terrorism.
Mrs Oliver and her seven children (pictured right) had a private meeting with the President and were later joined by the 25 members of the STOP committee.
