Wednesday February 15 2012

IT WAS a step back in time at the Rugby Club where a special fund raising '80s fancy dress disco was taking place to raise money for three different cancer charities.

The event was organised by Ursula Martin, Sandra Mccourt, Margaret Campbell, Karen Coan and Jill Gallagher, who were raising money for Solas in Waterford, The Gary Kelly Cancer Support Centre and Friends of Carrick.

The ladies wanted to thank John Halpenny for providing the double decker to bring everyone to the event.

I met up with Karen Coan from Blackrock who was busy running round making sure everyone was enjoying the craic and told me she was with her husband Mark.

I then caught up with MC Hammer, better known as Fred Mcaleavey from Blackrock, who was with his wife 'Souxsie Sioux' Ann as well as Mark and Michelle Mccumiskey from Belle's Tea Rooms in Blackrock who were with Cora Molloy, Kelly

and Barry Teather, all from Blackrock.

Not too far away, I then met up with Ross Mcenteggart, originally from Blackrock but who had come up specially from Cork for the night. He was with Alison O'connor, Clodagh Mackle, Sinead Hughes, Tara and Andy Cartwright, Lee and Catriona Keating, all from Blackrock, and Donal Mccauley, Niall and Sandra Mccourt from Mount Avenue.

After this, I met up with Jake and Elwood Blues, better known as Nicky Mcmahon from Inniskeen and Davy O'hagan from St. Alphonsus Road.

Not too long later I met Donal and Caroline Carroll from Rock Road who told me it was a real déjà vous trip on the night and the '80s music certainly had a lot going for it.

He was having a laugh with Blues Brother Ultan Herr, Freddie Mercury ( Noel Twibill) and his wife Sharon and Class of Fame ( Alan Tinsley).

I then caught up with Mark Coan who was having a laugh with Fiachra O'ceilleachair from Waterford and they were with Siobhan Smyth from Rock Road who was also celebrating her birthday.

Not too long later, I met up with Roisin Loughran and Kevin Hynes, both from Lis Na Dara, and after this I had the pleasure of talking to Claire Byrne from Faughart and Catriona Nulty from Castlebellingham, who told me they were going to have a totally massive night.

Finally, before we departed I then met up with Wayne and Garth from Wayne's World (a.k.a. Kevin Shields and Geraldine Kirk from Bridgewater Mews) who were looking great and were getting ready to party with everyone there.
