Jockeys hit Omeath for seven

TRIP TO ORIEL PARK ENDS UNDEFEATED RUN FOR TEAM

Wednesday December 16 2009

UNDEFEATED Omeath travelled to Oriel Park on Sunday last to take on Jockeys.

The home side started off by immediately putting pressure on the Omeath defence and after 10 minutes Anthony McAllister was unlucky when his free kick came back off the post and wide.

But five minutes later McAllister struck from the edge off the box to put Jockeys 1-0 ahead and from the 16th minute until the half-hour Jockeys were 4-0 ahead through David Boyle's headed corner, Joe Woods and Charlie Hutchinson.

A shocked Omeath team found it hard to break down a very strong Jockeys defence but Walker was unlucky not to pull one back on the stroke of halftime when Brian Halpin came off his line to save.

Omeath started the second half with James Walker and Emmet McGuigan getting a grip on midfield and they were rewarded when Walker scored to leave the score 4-1 and five minutes later Mickey McDonnell added a second to reduce the score to 4-2.

But just when it seemed that Omeath were getting a grip on the game, Jockeys struck again with goals from Charlie Hutchinson, Mark Larkin and Wayne Smith to give Jockeys a 7-2 lead and end the match as a contest.

Best for Jockeys were Anthony McAllister, Brian Halpin, and David Boyle. For Omeath, Emmet McGuigan, J Walker and Brian Elmore tried hard.

Riverstown had a fine 4-2 victory over Lumpers with an Aidan McCann hat trick and a Liam Oliver goal. Kevin Kelly scored twice for Lumpers.

Two goals each from Damian O'Connor and Craig Gartland give Peter Jacks a 4-0 win over Lily Finnegans at Bush.
