ON Friday night we headed for Byrne's Bar on Hill Street where a 50th birthday party was taking place for Anthony Lynch from Willow Grove. There to make sure he had a really great night was his wife Jackie, son James and daughter Eve and a huge collection of family and friends.

ON Friday night we headed for the Library Suite in the Fairways Hotel where the Vodafone Ball was taking place and a huge crowd were there to make the very best of the night. I wasn't too long in the door when I met up with Aidan Quigley from Carrick Road and Michael Bishop from Roche who told me they were going to have a few shandys and a good laugh.

THE MC introduced the teams of 1989 and 1990 to a generous round of applause and John McDonald spoke on behalf of the group and was proud to announce as the captain of 1989 that all were in attendance on the night except one and there were apologies for the absence. Brendan Burke captain of the 1990 team didn't speak on the night as he always did his talking on the field.

THERE are internet and Skype facilities and the phone calls home are very welcomed. Morale is high and unit cohesion, extremely important in the military, was achieved with little fuss or tribulation.

COOLEY Kickhams have just returned from a very enjoyable trip to Kerry after taking part in the Paidi ó Sé football weekend for the second consecutive year. Once again the team reached the final of the tournament only to lose out to Dingle. However the entire weekend was enjoyed by all who travelled and the added bonus from the team management's viewpoint was that the team got and played in three keenly contested games of football.
