Assurance on pensions
SINN Féin President and TD for Louth and East Meath Gerry Adams spoke to the Minister for Transport, Transport and Sport Leo Varadkar's on Friday evening and visited the office of the Dundalk Port Company where he met Frank Allen, CEO.
This followed the Minister's announcement on Thursday that he plans to amalgamate Dundalk with Dublin Port Company.
Deputy Adams said: 'I have spoken with the Minister following his announcement seeking further information, particularly in respect of what amalgamation means for jobs, the pension rights of the workers and the future of the Port.
' The Minister has assured me that the pension rights of the Dundalk Port company staff and pensioners will be secured.
'There is a local concern, which I share, that this amalgamation is part of the government's plan to sell off state assets. However the Minister told me that this is not his intention.'
