She might not be facing the wrath of Donald Trump, but Dundalk woman Orla McAdam is certainly being put through her paces on the Irish version of ‘The Apprentice.’

On Monday night last, 24-year-old Orla, from Marlbog Road, Haggardstown, was unveiled as one of the 14 finalists chosen by multi-millionaire businessman Bill Cullen who takes on the role made famous by US tycoon Donald Trump and British billionaire Alan Sugar.

The first episode in the series saw the Dundalk woman join the ‘Phoenix’ team, who went on to win their task after making a huge profit selling fruit in Dublin’s city centre.

This won the ladies a home cooked meal by a top chef, and secured Orla a place in the second round of the competition for a six figure contract to work with Bill Cullen.

Ambitious Orla is a former estate agent who was made associate partner in the estate agency she worked in by the age of 22 and claims to have always been a ‘high achiever.’

Her qualifications include a Certificate in Auctioneer, Valuations and Estate Agency.

In 2007 however, despite being the manager of four offices, the economic downturn took its toll and she changed careers.

After embarking on a round the world trip, Orla took up a position as a medical sales representative covering GPs in Dublin and the North East.

She says she feels she ‘has what it takes to become ‘The Apprentice’ because she is ‘an excellent all rounder that can fit in anywhere’.

Having done some modelling in the past, Orla says that in her spare time she participates in triathlons to keep fit.

She also cites her recent change in career as a prime example of how she can ‘tackle anything,’ and bravely told Bill Cullen as she fought to win a place in the final line up of ‘Apprentice’ hopefuls;

‘I don’t claim to know a lot about everything, but I feel I know a little about a lot.’

• The Apprentice is aired Monday nights at 9pm on TV3.
