DERMOT McArdle has been given a temporary jail reprieve for the manslaughter of his wife Kelly Ann Corcoran in a new twist to the decadelong saga. The father-of-three from Haggardstown has persuaded a Spanish court to give him another month to pay a total of € 220,000 compensation linked to his 2008 conviction for the manslaughter of his wife while they were on holiday in the Costa Del Sol in February 2000.

THE Argus has learned that the fire stations in Dundalk and Drogheda could be unmanned from 11pm to 8am as part of a review to streamline the services. It would mean all overnight emergency calls would be responded to by retained fire-fighters in the towns. It is one of a number of recommendations before the council and the unions following a review of the services in Louth.
