Seán had a great love of outdoor life

Sean Mcshane 1924 - 2012

Sean (Johnny) Mcshane, late of Chapel Street, Dundalk, who died peacefully in the Louth County Hospital on Saturday, January 7th, following a short illness, had a great love of the outdoor life.

Aged 88, he was originally from the Racecourse Road and attended the De La Salle national school. After his education, he served his time as a carpenter in Duffy's, Jocelyn Street. He later joined the workforce of Macardle Moore Brewery, where he was a most popular member of staff for over 20 years. He was a member of the Tradesmen Union for fifty years.

Sean loved the outdoor life, with shooting his favourite sport. He also enjoyed fishing and could be seen regularly in the company of his English Springer Spaniels.

He was also a keen gardener, with flowers and vegetables his speciality. He thought nothing of keeping neighbours' and friends' gardens in top class condition.

In his youth, he was a highly talented ballroom dancer, with ' The Hibs' his favourite venue.

Sean was a life- long Pioneer, and had a deep religious faith, with a special affinity to St. Mary's (Marist) Church.

He married local girl, Sally Kehoe, and the happy couple settled in Chapel Street and lovingly reared a family of three. Sadly, Sally passed away in 2005.

Above all, Sean was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved nothing more than to know his family were well and safe and was always on hand if he was needed.

He was always there to give advice and help to everyone down through the years.

His grandchildren, whom he adored, brought him extra joy.

His passing has left a huge void in the lives of his family, but they are consoled at this sad time by the wonderful memories they have been left of someone who was so special to them.

After reposing at Mcgeough's Funeral Home, Jocelyn Street, Sean's remains were taken to St. Patrick's Cathedral on Tuesday, January 10th for Requiem Mass, celebrated by Rev. Fr. Magnus Ogbonna, MSP, who delivered the eulogy.

The Readings were by grand-daughters, Nicola Carr and Sarah Carr, while the Prayers of the Faithful were read by grandson, John Harding. The Offertory Gifts were taken to the altar by grand-daughters, Shauna Carr and Laura Graham.

Beautiful music was provided by soloist, Susan Dixon, and organist, Brendan Mccourt.

After Mass, burial took place in St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Sean is survived by his son, Sean ( Washington); daughters, Mary (Dublin) and Ann (Dundalk); eight grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren; sisters, Monsie and Moya; sonsin-law, daughter-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife, Sally; brothers, Charlie and Robert, and sister, Mairead.

The family thank the staff of the Louth County Hospital for their kindness, and also Very Rev. Fr. Jim O'connell, Adm, Church of the Holy Family, for his much-appreciated assistance.

Month's Mind Mass will be held on Sunday, February 26th, in St. Patrick's Cathedral at 11.30am.
